Dolezal parents: Rachel's race claims are 'disturbing'
The white parents of prominent US civil rights activist Rachel Dolezal say she is "deceiving people about her ethnicity".
The 37-year-old, who is president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Spokane, says she is African-American but her biological parents say she is white.
In their first interview with UK media, Rachel's parents, Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal, told 5 live's Stephen Nolan:"It hurts deeply...it's disturbing that she was being dishonest."
Asked what might have motivated Rachel to make the claims, Larry said: "She may think it gives her a stronger voice advocating within the African-American community for social justice issues," he said.
"But we felt she had a very strong voice just being herself."
