'The Malala of Syria'
Mezon Almellehan is a 16-year-old Syrian girl who campaigns for education and against child marriages in refugee camps in Jordan. She speaks to impoverished families and convinces them not to marry off their daughters to older men. According to UNICEF, there has been an alarming rise in the number of Syrian refugee girls in Jordan being forced into early marriages. Mezon has been called the 'Malala of Syria' since the Pakistani education campaigner visited her. She has been speaking to Clare McDonnell.
