Former professional American football player Mike Webster played in the National Football League from 1974 - 1990 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs.

He died in 2002 following a heart attack and having suffered from dementia, which neurologist Dr. Bennet Omalu believes is likely to have been caused by Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) developed from helmet to helmet collisions with opponents during his career.

Webster's son 鈥楪arrett鈥� spoke about how the amount of concussions Mike suffered affected his wellbeing after his playing career had ended:

鈥淭here would be times when he would be in pain and he would say 鈥極K, how can I solve this myself?鈥欌��
said Garett.

鈥淗e would use a mail-order Taser on himself, which would paralyze him for 15-20 minuets [..] to take the pain away.鈥�

"I'll say to this day, I would do anything to get my dad out of that pain."
