Man convicted of hogging M62 middle lane 'going to appeal'
A painter and decorator says he is "definitely going to appeal" after he became the first person in the UK to be convicted of hogging the middle lane of a motorway.
Ian Stephens was fined £940 and given 5 points on his licence for hogging the middle lane of the M62 between Rochdale and Huddersfield last August.
Stephens said a gap opened up on the inside lane "for a brief moment, for about ten yards and then I'd have had to indicate to come back out because I was going up a hill I'd have ended up decreasing speed and not being able to gather the momentum to come back out into the middle lane."
"If you've got a driving licence, and you're qualified to drive, if you've got insurance and you've got tax you should be able to make judgement on the road as to what lane you drive in," he added.
