Flight Lieutenant Timothy Eddy will today receive the Air Force Cross for great courage in the air.

In December 2013, he landed a C-17 on a runway in South Sudan that was blocked by a crashed jumbo jet and airlifted 182 people stranded by the civil war.

鈥淲e鈥檇 been tasked to rescue these persons from the civil war in South Sudan and move them to safety of neighbouring Uganda, so that鈥檚 exactly what we wanted to do.鈥�

鈥淚t was a great team effort,鈥� he said.

鈥淲e鈥檙e just hugely relieved that it all went according to plan.鈥�
