‘It was a great team effort’
Flight Lieutenant Timothy Eddy will today receive the Air Force Cross for great courage in the air.
In December 2013, he landed a C-17 on a runway in South Sudan that was blocked by a crashed jumbo jet and airlifted 182 people stranded by the civil war.
“We’d been tasked to rescue these persons from the civil war in South Sudan and move them to safety of neighbouring Uganda, so that’s exactly what we wanted to do.”
“It was a great team effort,” he said.
“We’re just hugely relieved that it all went according to plan.”
