Sir Bruce Forsyth: Val Doonican 'one of the greats'
Sir Bruce Forsyth says Val Doonican was “one of the greats” after the Irish singer and TV entertainer died aged 88.
The performer was a regular fixture on TV with The Val Doonican show which ran on the ѿý from 1965 to 1986, featuring his own performances and guest artists.
Sir Bruce said Doonican’s calm nature was a great asset on television.
“Nobody understands what it is like to be a relaxed performer – and to put that kind of show on” said Sir Bruce.
“Nerves get into it, so to be that relaxed is a special talent.”
"He had an inner warmth that you felt, that can come through on television for some people, for other people it doesn’t," he added.
