'Father of modern cheerleading' dies
Tributes are being paid to the founder of modern cheerleading, Lawrence Herkimer, who has died in the United States at the age of eighty-nine. Herkie, as he was known, turned cheerleading into a multi-million dollar business, even developing a patent for the pom poms that became a cheerleading staple.
