A scientist says new research shows chimpanzees鈥� hands are more evolved than ours - but they 鈥渨ould not be so good at handling guns鈥�.

Dr Sergio Almecija from Stony Brook University in New York, led a team who discovered the human hand鈥檚 configuration has changed very little over time.

鈥淔or the case of the hand, our evolution is less so than a chimpanzee鈥�, said Almecija . 鈥淭hat鈥檚 just because their primitive condition was really pretty much like ours with a few changes here and there. We have improved our hands to manipulate much better鈥�.

Pushed on whether a Planet Of The Apes scenario could occur with chimpanzees one day using automatic weapons, he added 鈥渢heir hands are not so good at handling guns as they are portrayed in those movies."
