Does Chinese-style education work in the West?
Would Chinese-style education work on British kids? In an educational experiment, five Chinese teachers took over a class of 50 teenagers at a state-funded school in southern England. The teacher swap was part of a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ programme called "Are our kids tough enough? Chinese School". The teachers complained of a lack of motivation and bad discipline. Razia Iqbal spoke to two people who have taught in both Britain and China; Alex Ascherson and Xinran, whose son also experienced both education systems.
