Hiroshima atomic attack 70 years on: a survivor's tale
The United States launched the first nuclear attack in history 70 years ago today, when it dropped an atom bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. It was claimed this - and a subsequent attack on the city of Nagasaki - shortened the duration of the Second World War. But the fact remains that more than 140 thousand people perished at Hiroshima - more than 80% of them civilians, including tens-of-thousands of children. From Hiroshima, Rupert Wingfield Hayes reports.
