First Republican presidential candidate TV debate: an assessment
Americans offered first chance to compare leading contenders for Republican nomination.
People in America have now had chance to tune in and watch ten leading Republican Party presidential aspirants hold their first televised debate on why they think they're the right person for the top job at the White House. To prove their potential worth in next year's election the speakers clashed on various policy issues, including immigration, abortion and the Iran nuclear deal. The line-up included Jeb Bush - both a brother and son to former US presidents - as well as Scott Walker, Marco Rubio and the real estate mogul and media personality, Donald Trump. So who came out top? For an assessment Newsday's Julian Kean has been speaking to Professor Colleen Graffy from Pepperdine University School of Law. She's also a Republican supporter who served in the administration of President George W. Bush.
