Bank of England: Announcing interest rate rise date 'foolish'
The Bank of England's deputy governor for monetary policy Ben Broadbent told 5 live announcing in advance an exact date for a base rate rise would be "foolish".
He made the comments after the bank announced it was keeping interest rates at 0.5%.
Analysts expected a hike in rates after Governor Mark Carney hinted in a speech last month that they might go up by the turn of the year.
Yet the rate setters, the Monetary Policy Committee, voted 8-1 in favour of maintaining the rate, which has not changed since March 2009.
