Chinese TV star crosses a red line
Authorities in China have ordered a state broadcaster to punish a popular TV host for insulting the Communist Party founder Mao Zedong at a private dinner. Bi Fujian was a talent show host on China Central Television (CCTV) when a video circulated in April showing him mocking Mao in comments interspersed with song. Julian Marshall asked Diane Wei Liang - a Chinese author and cultural commentator based in Europe - what she made of the incident.
