Do we need to show our boarding passes in airport shops?
The Independent's Simon Calder tells us that showing your boarding pass in an airport shop is not a legal requirement and that it's only done so that retailers can keep the VAT.
The travel editor said, "we're so inclined to be compliant in airports because we're used to the idea that multiple officials will want to see our passports that when one more person asks to see our boarding pass we say "oh, alright".
He added that he "always challenges" the request and said excuses such as "security reasons" are "absolute tosh".
David Gauke MP, a Treasury minister, has said he's concerned that shops are holding on to this money and that he wants retailers to pass on the savings to shoppers.
