Fraudulent use of blue badges on the rise
It is estimated that 20% of the two million blue badges are being "fraudulently obtained", says Councillor Peter Fleming, deputy Chairman of the Local Government Association.
Figures from the LGA show fraudulent use has more than doubled in the last year, and include badges which have been stolen, counterfeited or being used by relatives when the disabled person is not in the car.
Speaking to 5 live Breakfast, Cllr Fleming said it is not a "victimless crime".
He said badges are used by people who "desperately" need them to maintain independence and a quality of life.
