Springsteen's 'Born To Run' photographer on iconic shot
40 years after the release of Bruce Springsteen's breakthrough album 'Born to Run', photographer Eric Meola talks about that cover shot.
Meola says he first Saw Bruce performing in a club when his photography career was starting and said to himself, "one day I am going to photograph that guy somehow".
A year later he bumped into Springsteen again and got to know him: "I found out they were recording Born to Run [...] they were in the studio non stop, I put my foot down and said 'now or never'."
The photographer says he'd spoken to Springsteen about what he would bring to the studio, about clothes etc, and decided that unlike the previous album's photograph, this one would be in black and white. "I felt black and white was much more gritty, more rock and roll", he told 5 live's Rhod Sharp.
"Everything was really contrasted, so it really worked".
