Sotherton: Sledging in athletics worse than in cricket
Olympic bronze medalist Kelly Sotherton reveals that athletes throw insults in order to put each other off. The heptahlete, who also won a Commonwealth gold medal, says sledging goes on more in athletics than in cricket, and competitors have to be prepared for it before events:
"What you'll get, especially in the sprints, is lots of bravado and arrogance in the call room. And they'll have games were they'll try and put each other off. It's all in the way they talk and the way they banter with ech other, they might even throw insults at each other." , she said, adding,
"You must expect it and learn to deal with it. If you think sledging is bad in cricket, you should hear it in athletics, it's horrendous."
