The first Muslim woman to travel the world on a Clipper boat
Maths teacher, Noreen Rahman, wants to dispel stereotypes about Muslim women, by travelling from London to Rio de Janeiro in the first leg of the annual Clipper race.
The race involves 12 yachts setting sail from Southend for a 40,000-mile round-the-world voyage, with each boat having a professional skipper and crews comprised of amateurs.
Ms Rahman said she can "still be a Muslim and sail", and by being a teacher at a girl's faith school, is trying to open up the idea of sailing "to a new generation of Muslim girls".
She said she still wears her headscarf whilst on the yacht and will be "praying on board" during the trip.
