Europol director: Europe needs more effective border controls
The head of the European Union's police agency, Rob Wainwright, said police in Europe would have a better chance of catching migrant smugglers if there were more “effective” border controls in place.
Europol said it's working urgently with national law enforcement agencies to catch the human smugglers responsible for trafficking the 71 migrants who died in a lorry in Austria last week.
Mr Wainwright said a major problem is the criminal groups, who have "no mercy" when smuggling migrants.
He admitted “effective border controls” would help catch more smugglers.
