NHS patients in Kent can have elective surgery in Calais
The general manager of the Centre Hospitalier de Calais, Martin Mtrelcat, said his hospital will take "between 300 and 400" English patients for elective surgery.
NHS patients on a waiting list for minor procedures could soon choose to cross the channel to go to a new hospital in Calais, in order to speed up their surgery.
Mr Mtrelcat believes the agreement is beneficial for both patients in Kent and the Centre Hospitalier de Calais as Calais is "a suburb of Kent" and is very easy to get to "by sea or train".
He said his hospital doesn't want to "compete with NHS hospitals" but be "complimentary".
