'Wayne Rooney is not world class', caller argues
Happy with Wayne Rooney's goal-scoring record? Not everybody is.
Ron from Southampton phoned 5 live's football social to voice his concerns about the Roy Hodgson's team - stating that England captain Wayne Rooney is not world class.
The Manchester United striker scored the 50th goal of his international career during England's 2-0 win over Switzerland - breaking Sir Bobby Charlton's long-standing record - but Ron insisted that he is nowhere near the top level.
"Rooney is not world class. The two best players in the world are Messi and Ronaldo," he argued.
"They got better and better and better - Rooney didn't. I'm sorry but Rooney isn't even on their level."
Despite protests from former international Chris Waddle, he also added his thoughts on the England setup as a whole: "We build ourselves up, we do well in qualifying, people get all excited. But we just fizzle out.. We are not good enough."
