Dancing in China by Fuchsia Dunlop: Shanghai 2012
It’s a place your mother probably wouldn’t have let you visit, certainly not alone. A Shanghai dancehall, once a byword for the city’s louche reputation, today represents an antiquated era, and the glamour as well as some of the seediness has faded.
Even so, Fuchsia Dunlop dug out her dancing shoes and paid a visit to the Gate of a Hundred Pleasures.
