Kelis: Racial stereotyping in music 'hasn't changed'
Kelis has told 5Live she is "not offended" by being classed as a hip hop artist, but it shows there is still "ignorance" in the music industry
The musician told Sarah Brett "If I wasn't a black artist, if I was Korean or Polish, there would be a totally different title for me."
“I'm not offended because I am black and I'm super proud of it but I just feel like, the ignorance level is right up there. I don't know that it’s got any better and I doubt it ever will.”
Asked about how female musicians are portrayed in music today she said it’s “devoid of creativity” and while she doesn’t mind artists being naked she has an issue when their music “isn’t good”.
