‘Emotional’ Rugby World Cup visit for fan with dementia
The daughter of a rugby fan with dementia says it “took her breath away” to hear him singing the Welsh national anthem at the Rugby World Cup.
Helen Thomas, a 5 live caller from Bristol, said it took a year of planning to get father Bryan to the tournament because of his condition, but she was determined to take him to see Wales v Uruguay.
“He kept saying, I can’t believe I’m here, people like me don’t come here,” she said. “He was quite emotional about it”.
“He just sang the anthem so loud and so proud… to be the same as everyone else, and join in the same way everyone else could, it was amazing.”
