Swann on the naughty step
A discussion on no-balls goes astray as ex-England cricketers Phil Tufnell, Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann reminisce about England’s tour of South Africa back in 1999-2000, when Swann’s penchant for missing buses placed him firmly on coach Duncan Fletcher’s naughty step.
England were beaten 2-1 in the five-Test series, which was Fletcher’s first in charge of the national side.
Swann admits that Tufnell was his mentor, so it was surprising he didn’t miss more buses, while Tufnell believes that only missing three was a relatively good ratio for a four-month tour, asking “How many buses do you miss in a normal job?”.
Swann ends the chat by offering a friendly greeting to his former boss - “Hello to Duncan Fletcher if you’re listening” - to which Vaughan retorts “He’s not!”.
