What to do if your child is choking
A mum whose baby daughter died after choking on mash potato describes how to help a child who is choking.
Joanne Thompson, founder of Millie's Trust which aims to make First Aid training more readily available, told 5 live Breakfast that parents must be "vigilant all the time" when watching children but accidents can still happen.
She said parents often underestimated the force needed to slap the back of a choking child and that 'sometimes ribs can be broken'.
Her advice followed the death of two year-old Jacob Jenkins who died after choking on a grape at Pizza Hut in Hartlepool.
