'Embrace' scars, says burns victim taunted as 'worm hands'
A burns victim who faced taunts such as “worm hands” says people with disfigurements should “embrace” the way they look.
Lucy Wilson from Derby suffered burns to her leg after she was scalded as a baby. She had four fingers and three toes amputated, and has since had more than 50 operations.
Growing up, Lucy, now 20, says bus drivers “wouldn’t put change her hands” and she was sometimes “followed” by people wanting to look at her scars.
The university student hopes by sharing her story, she can support other burns survivors who are “afraid to go out”.
