A beauty blogger has told 5 live she's "sceptical" of a teenage Instagram star who says social media has left her feeling empty.

Australian 18-year-old Essena O'Neill became a celebrity through posting images of her lifestyle.

O'Neill has since edited the captions of her own photographs, deleting many, saying they were artificial and self-promoting.

Sabrina Babo who runs a beauty blog called 'A Little Obsessed' told 5 live: "I'm personally just a little bit sceptical of the whole thing.

"I think for her to kind of decide that she hates social media and that it's almost ruined her life but keep some, (she's) still got a huge, huge following on Instagram and I think this whole story has made her Instagram even bigger. A perfect opportunity to promote her new website as well."
