Patricia Cornwell: Why I fell out with the Bush family

Best-selling author Patricia Cornwell told 5 live she used to be close friends George Bush Sr and his family. But reveals she that she fell out of touch with them over his son George W Bush's opposition to gay marriage.

She told Afternoon Edition: 'I'm sorry, any politician that wants to judge people because of their sexual orientation or their race or their gender is not a politician that I'm going to be fond of.'

Patricia Cornwell visited the Bush family with her partner Staci.

She said: 'It's really difficult when you start seeing yourself through the eyes of people who don't approve.'

The writer also admitted she is no longer friends with the famous evangelist Billy Graham, who she has known since childhood.

She said: 'His son's taken out full page ads against gay people. So I'm not friends with their family either.'
