Barber proves to be cut above with autistic customer
Hairdresser Jim Williams proved he's a cut above the rest when he lay flat on the floor to make autisitic four-year-old Mason Lewis overcome his fear of getting his hair cut
A Welsh barber has proven he is a cut above the rest after lying on the ground to cut the hair of a young autistic boy who was scared of the hairdresser's chair.
Four year old Mason Lewis had refused to have his hair cut since he was 18-months-old and his parents were growing more and more frustrated with his scruffy locks. So they turned to Jim Williams of Jim the Trim in Briton Ferry, south Wales, who came recommended as being very patient with children.
What happened next left Mason's parents Denine and partner Jamie Lewis astounded. Mother Denine says, "Jim's approach with Mason is amazing, he's just so friendly and Mason sort of feels at home in the shop, he's happy." Jim decided to cut Mason's hair while he was lying on the ground and the pictures of it have gone viral.
Barber Jim says, "I never, ever thought I'd get into that position to cut anybodys hair but the way I looked at is, if the child wanted to be in his comfort zone that's were I had to go. It was my natural thing and very rewarding in my eyes." Mum Denine adds, "Mason looks a lot neater now, Jim has gone above and beyond."
