WADA report author: 'My sadness over report findings'
Russia is facing suspension from all world athletics events - including next year's Olympics in Rio - after a damning report for the World Anti-Doping Authority found evidence of cheating, drug abuse, cover-ups and extortion throughout the sport in the country.
The report details "the intentional and malicious destruction of more than 1,400 samples by Moscow laboratory officials" and it goes on to say that the London Olympics had been "sabotaged" by widespread inaction towards doping.
The report co-author Richard McLaren says, "It was upsetting the more we got into this, it wasn't want we expected when we started. But once you find out something, the best way to correct it is to expose it and have people take action to change it. So I'm hopeful that things will improve but I'm certainly sad to have to put out this report."
