Britney's 'Baby One More Time' was Swedish mistranslation
An author says the lyrics to Britney's 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' were actually a mistranslation by its Swedish songwriter, Max Martin.
Martin, who is behind many 90s pop hits, thought "Hit me" was in actual fact the latest lingo for "call me up".
John Seabrook, who has written a book The Song Machine: Inside the Hit Factory said Martin was not trying to write an "ode to domestic violence".
Seabrook told 5 live's Rhod Sharp: "The line 'hit me baby one more time' would never have been written by an American or British songwriter.”
Martin has written songs for Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and The Backstreet Boys.
