All police officers 'should have degrees'
Debate between Alex Marshall, chief executive of the College of Policing and Steve White, chair of Police Federation of England and Wales, who disagree about the proposals.
All new police officers in England and Wales could require a degree in future, under plans proposed by the College of Policing.
"The nature of police work has changed substantially," said Alex Marshall, chief executive of the College of Policing and requires officers with the "ability to think critically and do complex problem solving".
The chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales, Steve White, described the plans as "barmy", motivated by cost-cutting and could lead to "excudling a whole tranche of people who could make excellent police officers".
