Mother: It 'could've been fatal' when toddler swallowed a battery
A mother said her fourteen-month-old daughter accidentally ate a button battery from a remote control causing her to "vomit" and "stop breathing".
Cathleen McCafferty, from Northern Ireland, said the battery was "very easily accessed" and her daughter "decided to eat it".
Emergency doctors and safety campaigners want parents of very young children to be visited at home by safety experts. They say that under-fives have a disproportionate number of accidents at home, and it could reduce pressure on A&E departments.
Cathleen said she was a "first time Mum" and was "completely unaware of the dangers of the batteries".
