Courteeners frontman Liam Fray says his dreams of playing on the pitch at Old Trafford were dashed by Alex Ferguson announcing his retirement.

Speaking to Afternoon Edition鈥檚 Dan Walker, the Manchester singer (pictured, left) joked that the Manchester United manager鈥檚 decision was a 鈥渟elfish鈥� one.

Fray said the band played in the parade at the town hall instead, which 鈥渂rought so many people together鈥� and was 鈥渘ice to be part of鈥�.

鈥淚t was different from a gig, it was their love of football why they were there. We even saw a City shirt in the crowd," he said.
