Antonio Pappano plays for James Naughtie
The Royal Opera House is staging a production of the operas Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci, which will be screened to cinemas around the country on December 10.
James Naughtie has been speaking to Antonio Pappano, music director of the Royal Opera House, about these classics of the Italian repertoire - with the help of the conductor's skill at the piano.
