Max Mosley, former president of Formula One governing body the FIA, says its owners will struggle to sell the franchise because racing has become 鈥渟imply too expensive鈥�.

鈥淭here are only two or three teams that can really afford to spend the money that鈥檚 being spent now,鈥� he told Today programme sport presenter Rob Bonnet.

鈥淭he others are either on the verge of having to stop or at least greatly disadvantaged by not having enough money. I don鈥檛 really see how anyone can sell it until those problems have been resolved.鈥�

He argued that a cap on spending should be introduced to create a level playing field so that 鈥渋t鈥檚 the cleverest engineer that succeeds not the richest鈥�, but not everyone would welcome the move.

鈥淭he rich teams don鈥檛 want the less rich teams to become competitive,鈥� he said.
