Katie Hopkins responds to Brunel University protesters
Katie Hopkins says she knew of plan by Brunel University students to walkout of debate.
Katie Hopkins was invited to a debate on welfare at Brunel University, during which a group of students got up and turned their back on her and then walked out. Here Katie gives her reaction to their actions and reveals that she was told it was going to happen beforehand.
The protest was organised by Ali Milani, President of Brunel Students Union. He said that Katie Hopkins "adds nothing to the intellectual discourse within our institution and within society as a whole."
"She says offensive and belligerent things that many are offended by[...] We champion free speech and champion freedom of expression so we didn't want to no-platform her or take away her right to speak but wanted to push forward the freedom of expression of our students to vocalise their discontent to their institution."
In response, Katie Hopkins told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 5 live "I have more regard for the people that stayed, that got involved in the debate that had their say, that had a rant.
Asked if she was surprised by the students walking out Hopkins replied, "I'd been told what was going to happen before I walked in."
