Yorkshire ripper victim's son: He's ill rather than evil

The Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, is no longer mentally ill and can be moved from Broadmoor secure hospital to a normal prison, according to reports.

Sutcliffe's first victim was Wilma McCann, who was murdered in 1975. Her son, Richard McCann, said "it's only right" Sutcliffe returns to prison because he "shouldn't receive favourable treatment."

Sutcliffe murdered thirteen women and started his twenty life sentences in a normal prison in 1981. He was moved to the psychiatric unit at Broadmoor three years later after being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

McCann said he thinks Sutcliffe is "ill, rather than evil" and said he'd forgiven his mother's murderer leaving "anger and resentment" behind following a meeting with Desmond Tutu in 2010.
