School human skeleton set for burial after discovery
A Merseyside school's long-serving science lab skeleton is being laid to rest.
The skeleton which is missing both arms and a leg was being used for 40 years in the science and art lessons at Haydock High School. Affectionately dubbed "Arthur" by teachers and pupils, the skeleton was later put in storage and replaced by a plastic version.
It was thanks to the due diligence by Technician Sandra Dixon in the art department that Arthur's true identity was uncovered. She spoke about how the school had no "suspicions" at first that the skeleton was not plastic.
She told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 live Daily: "We didn't know he was real at first, he was always just in the corner of the art department - he's always been there. We didn't have any suspicions of him at first, until we decided that we needed to lay him to rest. That when we got suspicious if he was born or if he was plastic."
