A woman who discovered she was born using donor sperm says birth certificates should reflect the way a child was conceived.

Emma Cresswell, 27, was 19 when the man she thought was her father revealed the truth during an argument. Mother Sue (right) said she had planned to tell Emma but had not found the right moment.

Emma told 5 live Daily: "I always wonder, what if something had happened to mum that meant she couldn't have told us? I would never have found out."

At least 49,000 children have been born through sperm donation since records began in in 1991. Last year the UK's national NHS sperm bank opened in Birmingham, but is struggling to attract donors.
