Donor-conceived boy: 'It's just a different way of being born'
Donor-conceived twins Phoebe and Matthew - nine - say they are no different from other people.
Phoebe and Matthew Betts have known from a very young age that they were conceived using donated sperm, after their parents Shaun and Sarah used a specially-written book to explain it to them from the age of three.
Matthew and Phoebe spoke to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 live about what it's like to grow up knowing you are 'donor-conceived'.
Asked if they tell their friends about being donor-conceived Matthew said, "Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't bother because it's not that important [...] it doesn't make me different from other people, it's just a different way of being born."
Phoebe was asked if she ever gets bullied for her circumstances: "Once one of my friends said she thought it was strange that I was made differently, but that's about it", she said.
What about the man who was the donor? Would they ever want to find him? "I think it would be better to know who was also part of you so you could know what you were about" Phoebe said, while Matthew answers: "I would like to meet them, but not because I want to find out who my actual daddy is - Shaun is my daddy, he's the one who cares about me and loves me, he's still my actual daddy [...] and I'll always love shaun better than the other person".
