Why one Socialist politician is disobeying his party
France's far-right National Front scored big successes in yesterday's first round of regional elections. The ruling Socialists have instructed candidates with little chance of winning the second round to withdraw, to avoid splitting the anti-National-Front vote. But not everyone has complied. Jean-Pierre Masseret is the Socialist Party candidate in the eastern Alsace-Champagne-Arden-Lorraine region.
