Should we eat Dartmoor's ponies?
A Devonshire farmer has suggested that eating Dartmoor ponies could help their long-term survival.
Charlotte Faulkner from the Dartmoor Hill Pony Association said "only a certain number of ponies" are allowed on the moor at one time, and despite re-homing hundreds of foals each year, up to 300 are slaughtered "for nothing".
She said if a food market were introduced the ponies "would have a value" and money could be raised to help reduce breeding.
"We're not asking people to eat hundreds, it's just a very small part of a bigger management puzzle for the ponies on the moor".
Opponents of the idea say stallions should be removed from the moor which would control pony numbers.
