Steve Claridge says he cannot understand what Louis van Gaal has done as Manchester United manager, and says there is 'no direction' under the Dutchman.

Van Gaal, who has previously managed Bayern Munich and Barcelona, is in his second season in charge at Old Trafford. A 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday means United have won just two of their last seven league games.

They are fourth in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal.

"What is he doing, someone give me a clue?鈥� Claridge said.

鈥淵ou could write a list 100 pages long with questions as to why did you do this? There are no answers, there is no direction, there鈥檚 no pattern.

鈥淭ell me someone what he is trying to do and what direction he is trying to take the football club?

鈥淚f he鈥檚 managed like this you do wonder how he鈥檚 ever had the success he鈥檚 had because it鈥檚 been nonsensical a lot of the time,鈥� he added.
