What was it like to hang out with The Beatles?
Its been 35 years since John Lennon died. The filmmaker who spent time with The Beatles in India says the band were 'exploding with creativity' there.
Paul Saltzman, the filmmaker who spent time with the Beatles in India, has been speaking to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 live about his experience there.
He talked about first meeting the band and how Ringo and Paul "teased him about having the Queen on our money". It was John Lennon's first wife Cynthia who stepped in saying, "Come on chaps leave the poor guy alone he's only just arrived."
The Beatles took Paul "into their group" and let him hang out with them for a week. Talking about what made The Beatles so creative in India he says: "I think they were detached from their every day crazy lives [...] they were in this quiet place where there was no one allowed in, were eating vegetarian food, there was no alcohol, no cigarettes, do drugs, no meat".
When asked about the rumour that Ringo left because he couldn't handle the spicy food Paul replied: "That wasn't the real reason [...] we left at the same time [...] when I asked how come you are leaving he said 'Maureen is missing the kids and she doesn't like the flies'".
