Aamer: 'Rape threat made at my daughter'
Shaker Aamer, the last British resident of Guantanamo Bay, describes how one interrogator in Afghanistan threatened to rape his daughter, then aged five.
Shaker Aamer, the last British resident of Guantanamo Bay, has told the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Victoria Derbyshire how one interrogator in Afghanistan threatened to rape his daughter, who was then aged five.
"That was completely inhumane. It was worse than the beating as well, worse than everything, just thinking of my daughter,'' he said.
Mr Aamer was first held in Afghanistan before being transferred to the US military base in Cuba in 2002, where he was held without trial for nearly 14 years.
His lawyers say the case against him came from unreliable allegations extracted during torture, and that his treatment at the US military base in Cuba raises serious questions about the legality and morality of the so-called war on terror.
A spokesperson said the UK government "stands firmly against torture and cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment or punishment".
The US Department of Defense said in a statement it "does not tolerate the abuse of detainees. All credible allegations of abuse are thoroughly investigated, and appropriate disciplinary action is taken when those allegations are substantiated."
