Ombudsman: 'Bought a hoverboard? Take it back'
The barrister backed by the government to help with shopping disputes says people who have bought hoverboards should return them.
Dean Dunham, the government's Retail Ombudsman, was speaking to 5 live after several retailers stopped selling the devices, which have become one of the most wanted Christmas gifts.
Trading Standards has seized more than 15,000 unsafe hoverboards, mainly for having electrical components that could explode or catch fire.
John Lewis, Argos and Amazon have all stopped selling them.
"I think you've got to err on the side of caution and take it back", said Dean. "We don't know enough information about these to be able to go out to the public and say: 'If you spend a lot of money on one of these it will be fine'."
