Screenwriter and novelist Petru Popescu tells the fascinating story of photographer Loren McIntyre, who in 1969 found himself lost amongst the remote people of the Javari Valley, on the border between Brazil and Peru in the western Amazon Basin.

Popescu met McIntyre while on a trip to the Amazon in 1987. His book Amazon Beaming, published in 1993, recounts McIntyre's time with this "uncontacted" Indian tribe and his discovery of the source of the Amazon River.

The book was the source text for Simon McBurney's play The Encounter, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2015 in a production by British theatre company Complicite.
