The life and death of American psychiatrist, Robert Spitzer
Spitzer, famous for founding modern classification of mental disorders, has died at the age of 83. He played a leading role in the development of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which has been described as the "bible" of American psychiatry. Professor Sir Simon Wessely knew Spitzer and is President of the UK's Royal College of Psychiatrists.
